Get in the Irish spirit near 145 Front apartments in downtown Worcester.
The Irish have made a home in Worcester for over 300 years, and whether you’re looking to explore the city’s Gaelic roots to honor this history, shake your shamrock, or sip some stout this St. Patrick’s Day, there are a number of great ways to show your spirit near 145 Front apartments. Among the best, though is usually the Worcester St. Patty’s parade. Unfortunately for the 17th of March, the parade has been rescheduled to take place on March 24, to avoid the less-than-ideal predicted weather. So, what can you do for the Irish-centric holiday to avoid the cold? Here are some ideas.
Fiddler’s Green, at the Worcester Hibernian Cultural Centre just north of 145 Front at 19 Temple St., has planned festivities that include a slate of performers including Arny Hamm, the Belfast Cowboys, and Hit the Bus, as well as a fully stocked bar and traditional Irish fare to gain sustenance for the day’s festivities. You’re sure to find a rousing time and interesting conversation, maybe even learn a thing or two about the history of the area or about Irish culture.
Head to an Irish Pub
There is no shortage of Irish bars in Worcester, so finding one to raise your glass to the eradication of snakes in Ireland shouldn’t be very hard. If you’re looking to visit a historic venue, stop by the oldest bar in Worcester. Which bar that actually is has been up for debate, but both contenders, Moynagh’s Tavern (25 Exchange St.) and Moynihan’s Pub (897 Main St), are more than suitable St. Patty’s destinations. In fact, you can visit both just to cover your bases and gain a modicum of Worcester street cred. For a less traditional spot, The Boynton is awesome and they have everything you need to celebrate the day properly.
Celebrate at Home
Call your friends and family and have them over for an Irish celebration of your own making. Grab some corned beef, cabbage and potatoes to give your guests a hearty meal. Definitely don your Kelly green to make a stop at Kelly Square Liquors. You can grab some Guinness, Harp, Jameson, Powers, or Bushmills to start, then take some suggestions on how to spice up the spirit selection at your soireé from the shop’s staff. Then, all that’s left is to stream some Flogging Molly or The Pogues, and see where the night takes you. If you’re lucky enough to live at 145 Front, you have a ton of common areas at your disposal to entertain your guests, play pool, and fraternize with your awesome neighbors, too.
